The department of Political Science of Barbhag College was established in the year 1965. But till 1975, it was taught as a general subject (Pass course) and it got necessary recognition and concurrence as a major subject in the year 1975. It now offers undergraduate degree course both in Honours and general course under Non-CBCS and CBCS course.
The department always endeavors to generate new knowledge and produce students who are trained in Political Science. It strives to pursue academic excellence in teaching, research and extension and to form critical evaluation of social, economic and political variables for a proper understanding of the plurality of Indian society.
The department has the privilege of renowned ex-faculty members, like Mr. Kanak Ch. Haloi, Dr. Dharanidhar Goswami, Dr. Dharanidhar Goswami who made all the efforts from the very beginning to establish the department as one of the important departments of the college. Every year, the department ensures great academic achievements for students. Many students of the department had successfully enrolled themselves in different universities, got selection in government and private jobs, which again proves the hard work invested by the faculty.
The friendly relation between the faculty and the students is the key factor for the department. In spite of presence of different limitations, the department still works hard to ensure students of what they are worth to. each year, it organizes different types of seminar, workshop, alumni meet, field study and conducts classes with the help of learning technologies to make learning more enjoyable. it also collaborates with the department of different colleges through teacher-students faculty exchange programmes.
