Physics Department


History of the department:
Department of Physics, Barbhag College was established in the year 1989 simultaneously with three other departments of Science stream of the college with introduction of higher secondary course. Till 1996, the department offered only higher secondary level course. In the session 1996-97, the B.Sc General course was introduced with Mahananda Pathak as the only faculty of the department. After that, in 1998, another faculty member, Pulama Talukdar was appointed and in 2010 the third faculty member Lakhsi Nath Choudhury was appointed. The Science stream of the college along with the department of physics was provincialised with effect from 14.08.2013.

Vision and Mission of the department:
Vision: Our vision is to provide a high quality education in the field of Physics and to train the students to gain scientific skills and practical skills. We also envision our students to become competent and motivated professionals by nurturing scientific temper and creativity.
Mission: Our faculties are dedicated to performance based teaching and learning which involves students in practicing their skills and knowledge in an environment where they can interact with teachers and classmates. We are committed to the impartment of quality education both in theoretical and experimental physics with special emphasis on learning by doing which is grooming bright undergraduates to become successful in a wide range of career paths.

Programme Specific Outcomes: (B.Sc Regular): This programme in physics would provide the following opportunities to the students.

• To understand the fundamental principles, concepts and recent developments in Physics.
• To carry out experiments to understand the various laws and concepts in physics.
• To inspire and boost interest of the students in physics.
• To develop the power of appreciations, the achievements in science and role in nature and society.
• To apply the theories learnt and the skills acquired to solve the real life problem.

• To enhance the academic abilities, personal qualities and transferable skills so that the students will get the opportunities to get jobs in various fields.

• To become a person with analytical mind, innovative thinking, clarity of thought, expression and systematic approach.
