1. History of the department: The department of Mathematics, Barbhag College was established in 1975 and the BSc honours course was started in 2018. From the time of its establishment it has been educating higher secondary and under graduate students. At present it has more than 80 students including the higher secondary and under graduate courses. The department has been immensely successful academically and has produced a lot of meritorious students. A number of students are engaged in higher studies as well as in different profession after completion of their under graduation courses from this department.

3. Programme Specific objectives:
B.Sc Honours in Mathematics:
Objectives:
a. To develop broad knowledge in Mathematics in addition to understanding of Mathematical concepts, principles and theories.
b. To qualify for admission into post graduate course and other related course in Mathematics.
c. To improve a ability and skill of the students to acquire knowledge for solving of both theoretical and applied Mathematics problems.
d. To build up career of students as a Mathematics in various fields.
B.Sc Regular with Mathematics & Mathematics as Generic Elective:
Objectives:
a. To build a firm foundation in current Mathematical and scientific theories.
b.To enable the students to explore new areas of research in both Mathematics and allied fields of science and technology
c. To build the ability of students to explain why mathematics is an integral activity for addressing social, economic and environmental problems.
d.To build skill of students in problem solving, critical thinking and analytical reasoning as applied to Mathematical related problems.
