History of the Department: The department has been imparting academic and social responsibilities to the greater Barbhag area from its foundation day. In addition to curricular aspect of learning, the department is engaged in extending its effort to increase the social responsibilities, nationalism and heritage conscious citizen for the society as a whole. Initially the subject has been introduced in the intermediate level and the department got government affiliation in 1975 for undergraduate level. Dr. Santo Barman was the founder professor of this department, who was a reputed historian, research guide of Gauhati University. The department got affiliation in honors on 1979.Under his leadership this department, become an important department of Barbhag College and render its contribution from last 52 years.
