1. Department at a Glance:
To generate awareness about the versatility of education as a discipline and unfolding the opportunities of the subject, the Department of Education was established in the year 1965 and is on the ground floor of the main building of the College. The founder of the department was an eminent educationist Hem Chandra Deka. The department got Govt. Devifit (G.T.A.) in December, 1975. From its conception till 1978, the department offered only general (Pass) courses; it was in the year 1978, that the department started honors (Major) courses. Currently, there are four faculty members in the department, and offer both General and Mojor courses under Gauhati University. The department has been immensely successful academically and has produced a lot of meritorious students. A number of students are engaged in higher studies as well as in different profession after completion of their under graduation courses from the department.

Challenges:
• Lack of proper facilities to store departmental documents during flood.
• Poor Online connectivity (Wi-Fi), Mobile Network
• Lack of fund for departmental activities
• Majority of the students are weak in English language.

5.Future Plan
The department will publish a quality research journal with ISSN and will be included in
the UGC carelist
