The Department of Economics came into existence along with the inception of the institution ‘Barbhag College’ in the year 1964 and was headed by Basudeb Sarma. Subsequently in the year 1974, Economics was introduced as honours subject in the college. The department have been educating students at Higher secondary and Undergraduate level since its establishment. The department has been immensely successful academically and has produced a lot of meritorious students. A lot of Students after passing from the department have continued their postgraduation studies in different universities over the years. The department also arranges many co-curricular activities for the welfare of the students. The department has a forum named ‘Economic Planning Forum’ and it also maintains a wall magazine.
